Part 5 LESSONS
This concluding part, “Lessons,” raises the question: What can I learn from the Black Child Legacy Campaign? What began as a plan to reduce Black infant mortality by focusing on seven neighborhoods with five strategies evolved into a network of community organizations, families, leaders, and government entities collaborating and “creating sustainable strategies and building on each neighborhood’s amazing strengths, qualities, and unique attributes.” If you are a mayor, educator, youth advocate, student, parent, nonprofit leader, or community leader, this section should be of great interest. Heather Gonzalez, Amaya Noguera-Mujica, Adiyah Ma’at Obolu, Torry Winn, and Vajra Watson discuss their experiences and offer lessons, insights, and recommendations. This part provides perspectives from mental health advocates, social services leaders, educational researchers, and student-artist-activists. It concludes with futures matter with chapter 22, “Reopening: Future Forward.”
